Birthday Fun - Dallas Zoo (Hippo Heavy), Davis Coffee, Manhattan Project, and Family

It's my Birthday!!!  We are off to the zoo bright and early for a member morning and while we are walking around, my phone is constantly buzzing.  I LOVE IT!  Who wouldn't?  I heard from my mom, four children, three grandchildren, and two girlfriends while enjoying the zoo.  Crazy, right?  At any rate, you're more interested in the animals, I bet.  Here ya go:  Baby flamingoes.

OHB Easter Egg Hunt

We don't have a lot of plans for this weekend, but the OHB Easter Egg Hunt is happening and it's always a fun time.  Bobby opts to come along and learn a bit more about craft beer.  All of the sampler glasses in the pic are his.  Too funny.

New York City - Here We Come! Day 1

When I arrived home from a cruise on the 3rd (yes, 15 days ago), Mister indicated that he wanted to go somewhere.  The very next day, we had booked a trip to NYC and today we are off. Why NYC?  Well, it's the Birthday Season for him and he's going home.  You know - the kind of home that touches our heart as we started out there.  We have five glorious days and, now, at the you know what of dawn - we are getting started.  It's a quiet airport this early on a Sunday, but that's okay.  Oh, maybe I should mention that at this point we only have $330 invested in the trip.  BOTH flights on American (upgraded) and our hotel for the week (Marriott) have been paid in full along with insurance just in case.  I am merely pointing this out because there are ways to travel on the cheap and live nice - ya just gotta play the games.  The aforementioned dawn, is starting to show her face.  We have a plane and a crew - life is good.  Boarded and leaving just as the sun makes an appearance.  Up, up, and away we go.

Around Town with Mister's Family - Arboretum Too

Our nephew, Bob, called and wanted to get together as his trip to New York was cancelled and he is having a "staycation" in downtown Dallas instead.  We'd love to spend some time together and make plans to meet up for coffee and a trip to the Arboretum.

Loving the gardens as we do, we could walk them everyday and the holidays just bring them to life in a fun way that one never tires of.  Come along for a few pics.

Zoo and Family - A Great Satruday

Good morning!!!!  It's time to get moving.  Mister and Kelly are enjoying the sunshine with coffee and conversation and I'm finishing up some Facebook group posts.  Saturdays mean new steps in our Quilt-A-Longs.  At any rate.  The day is lovely and with Kelly's departure around 8:30, we hopped in the car for a walk at the zoo.  Daffodils are the first greeting we have as we step out of the car.  Lovely, simply lovely.

Downtown Dallas and Beyond

Downtown Dallas is calling.  We've answered.  A chance to visit with the nephew and do some city walking is always a choice opportunity.  To make it ever more urban, it's a DART day.  Why not?  Who wants to deal with parking?

Due to some work on the rail lines downtown, the last stop we can exit at gives us additional fun with a little longer walk.  You see -- some could be brought down by that, but not us.  It's just that much more up close fun.  Yes, we drive through downtown all the time, but when driving just how much can you really see?  It's hard to look up and keep eyes on the road AND all the great stuff is small.

Our first stop is at the Majestic Theater.  OMG -- I had no idea about the history behind it.  "The Majestic Theater is the sole survivor of a section of Elm Street that was once renowned  as Dallas' 'Theater Row.'  Built in 1921 (and by coincidence, located at 1921 Elm Street), the Majestic is actually the second theater by that name, the first being a vaudeville house built in 1905 at Commerce and St. Paul.  Throughout the 1920s, this grand old theater, designed to seat 2,400 patrons, presented vaudeville shows as well as motion pictures and, from time to time, live theater.  Some of the better-known performers who appeared on its stage were Milton Berle, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Bob Hope, Ray Bolger, Sally Rand, and Duke Ellington.  During its early years the elaborately-decorated Majestic boasted a full orchestra pit and a downstairs play area for children called 'Majesticland.'  In the 1930s the vaudeville acts were dropped and for many years only movies were shown here.  Today the Majestic is a live theater venue only."

This is cool --- old meets new.

Just Us Two -- SipStir, Dallas Zoo, Mom, OHB

It's a Just Us Two type of day.  Well, at least for part of it.  Come along and let's see what all we can see and do.

We're starting out with a new to us coffee shop called sip/stir.  I think it's super cute and a great play on words.

It has a nice open floor space with lots of great places to sit, both for group and individual needs.

Dallas Blooms 6th Visit -- Happy Easter

It's a beautiful morning and I want to walk --- I want to bask in the beauty of spring and soak in the new installation at the Arboretum.  It is called "Celebrate the Children" and the sculptures are by Gary Lee Price.  In 2016 there was a "Great Contributor" bronze statue exhibit also by Price and enjoyed by my granddaughters.  You can peek at it in this LINK

I love his work and have been looking forward to this day.  We skipped a week and oh my goodness -- the change at the gardens in huge!

4 Rotations - On Rotation Anniversary

Saturday and we are meeting up with Mom for lunch.  Upon our arrival she is heading down to the lunchroom for soup and says she doesn't really feel up to going out.  Mister and I head up to her room to get her meds set up for the week and wait for her.  A few minutes later, the aide comes and says that Mom wants to see me in the dining hall.  Down I go.  She has not ordered, they don't have the soup she wants, and she is unhappy.  I ask her how important it is where she eats the soup.  Let's get out of here and go get some yummy Pho.  Finally, she agrees and off we go.  Yep, it's raining out but we are making an adventure out of it and she is giggling like she has never played in the rain before.  I LOVE it.  We all order the smallest bowls we can and look how big they are.  I think the bowl is bigger than her.  Hope she's hungry.

Christmas Family Time

Christmas Morning and I'm in my usual spot.  Sipping tea while it is still dark out and enjoying the glow of the tree.  It's the calmest part of the day and I adore it.  Some reading and some reflecting top it off and I can truly start the day with the right attitude.  Merry Christmas!!!

College Graduation for Bob

I am leaving retreat super early this morning as my nephew is graduating from college in Dallas today.  That means I am beating the sun.  Yay!  Not.  We were up late last night enjoying the last night at Brazos until October.  It was a short night, for sure.

As I'm driving, the sun starts to rise.  I love these moments so very much.

Merry Christmas! The Whole Family is Together.

Merry Christmas!  It's here!  Mister and I have slept in this morning.  Isn't that just the most sure sign that you are getting old and there are not any small people in the house?  Should we have slept in?  Probably not.  We have company arriving in a few hours and for some reason, still have a bit to do.  That means get up and get after it right?  Nope.  Let's open gifts.

It's dang obvious that I am NOT the one holding a camera.  Really?  Robe, pajamas, and crazy hair.  Yep, perfect time for a picture.

We took a trip at the first of the month that is was our gift to each other and then we bought a car.  Mister received a few fun cocktail experiment supplies and that's more than enough for our own fun.  With the kids sending goodies, we have a few more packages to open.

Day Before Thanksgiving Family Time

My sweet Mister has family here in Dallas too and sometimes it is hard to work out spending time with both sides over Thanksgiving.  With Jen's group in town, we can't really get away so invited Mom H. and his sister Michelle over for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner.  No turkey, but a wonderful Holiday Ham, with Lemon Thyme Rice, Iron Burnt Green Beans, Salad, Fresh Bread and Strawberry Granita for dessert.  Most of the day was spent in the kitchen, but I loved the time there.

When Jen's family arrive, they have an extra as they are hosting a foreign exchange student this year.  Welcome to the family Leon.

Zoo and Family Fun

Hello Fall!  We are off for a fun-filled day and the first thing I notice is the changing of the oak tree in the backyard.

Time With Mister - Davis Street Espresso, Zoo, Arboretum, and More

A beautiful fall Saturday means that we can not only attend the members breakfast at the zoo but also make a stop in Bishop Arts for some coffee.  Yes, we are up THAT early.  Davis Street Espresso is where we are off to and it's been awhile since we had their yummy drinks.

I love this little place and since we are here so early, we are even in before the hipster crowd that hangs out here.  That makes this even better if possible.

Bob is 21

My nephew, Bob, is 21 and we are all gathering around for a birthday celebration.  He shares the day with his father and we are able to do two Happy Birthdays at once.

It's E Fratelli for lunch and family all around.  Mister and I stopped last night for a fun gift.  A person only turns 21 once so we hit up the liquor store and gave him lots of variety in tiny bottles.  Yep, we ARE that aunt and uncle.  Such fun.

Artscape and Dinner with Family

Mister has tickets to Artscape at the Arboretum tonight so we are meeting up with his brother and sister-in-law for a fun family evening.

Artscape is a very small art festival held on the garden grounds.  The cool thing about it is that the vendors are usually different from the regular festivals and thus, much more hands on.  Two booths especially catch my eye enough to watch, watch, watch.  First up:  weaving.  Oh my.  I would love to have this talent in my arsenal.  And the beauty of her work is simply breathtaking.

Thanksgiving At Home

I do so love Thanksgiving.  It is by far the holiday that is the least stressful for me and allows for conversation and memory  making to take place.  This year it's a bit quiet as people's schedules are just too busy to be traveling.  Well, let's see then.  Who can we invite at the last minute that won't likely have big family plans?  Mom H. is on board for sure and so Mister and I ask Tina, Sabrina, and Cecilia over.  Yay -- my table is full and I'm happy.

We have a great time and Mister's turkey turns out scrumptious.  My favorite moment of the day?  Cecilia waiting for dinner and continuously saying, "I'm so excited to eat."  Ah, makes my heart feel good.  Hope your day was filled with love and laughter as well.
