June 1st - I have been bothered by a rash on my leg for a week now and it is really starting to travel and get worse. I am biting the bullet and heading for the doctor.
After a quick appointment which nets me some steroids, antibiotics, and hydrocortisone cream, we are off to Central Market for groceries. It's a pretty boring day for a grandson that is 14 and I feel bad for him, but dang -- my leg is a mess.
Dinner is at Smash Burger, as requested, and nothing has changed since the last time we were there. I think that was their final death march for us. No more Smash Burger. When asked the difference between a regular and large burger, the attendant held up two cups and explained to me that one was regular and one was large because one was bigger than the other. Honest.
Once we are back home, Grandpa and Jacob spend some time working with the cameras and learning more about photography, something my grandson has an interest in.
I have to laugh as I go into the room to see them working on some shots they took.
2nd - Our big day's adventure today is to go see Wonder Woman. We are off to the mall and I have to admit that the movie is really quite good. As we leave the theater, it is raining like crazy outside and we think to figure out a way to get to the car without getting drenched. Jacob to the rescue and soon we are in the car and slowly making our way home. It is usually about a 15 minute drive, but 1/2 an hour into it, we are still on Northwest Highway by Flagpole Hill and barely moving. As we finally reach the intersection of Northwest Highway and Audelia, there is a couple of inches of water on the road and we make the turn. Immediately upon turning, we look up and a wall of water is coming at us - at least 6-10 inches deep in places and getting deeper the further uphill we go. It's crazy and I've never seen anything like it. Garbage cans are floating past us and cars are starting to stall out. At the very first opportunity, I make a right turn hoping to get out of the river streaming towards us and we do okay until about halfway down the next road. At that point someone else has managed to stall out and soon my car is steaming too. We turn it off, call Grandpa and begin the wait for the road to clear and then the attempt to start the car. After another half an hour and many interesting sights (one car tearing up a lawn, others driving on sidewalks, crazy people everywhere) later, we finally start the car again and it takes us four starts/stops to make it to the house where it goes into the garage to hopefully dry out and start again tomorrow. OMG. What a crazy experience. THAT was a true flash flood.
It's late, but now to make a roast chicken. I have promised Jacob some more basic cooking lessons.
3rd - It's Saturday and fortunately the car starts. Can I get a hooray? The morning is spent working on one of my projects and now we are off to Nickelrama, a pinball/arcade spot I have located. I'm kind of excited to play some true pinball after all these years.
At one point, I am playing the Wizard of Oz game and manage to do so well that there are 6 balls coming at me all at the same time. What the heck?
Grandpa has found a boba tea spot so we stop for a drink and then continue towards home. There is a slot car spot along the way and as there are cars in the parking lot, we make a quick pit stop. What a little gem this turns out to be.
The place is packed and they are getting ready for some drag races this evening. As we walk around asking questions, the boys are invited to come and race a couple of cars. Boys and toys. They are stoked and eager to learn. I'm pretty sure Grandpa's grin won't end.
They wait their turn at the end of the room and are soon able to send two cars on their merry way. Oh my goodness, they go so fast.
There is a little traffic light down at the beginning and they have to react to the lights telling them when to go.
After the first attempt, in which they do not start together and one is disqualified, they are able to get a second race and do dang well. Smiles all around.
Another quick walk around talking with some of the guys and I spot this pretty little thing. Ooooh. I want a full size one.
As we get near the house, we decide to just run in and get the cameras. With all the rain the past couple of days, the lake and dam should have some good opportunities for photography lessons and off we go. The boys get set up and start the lessons while I just meander off on my own. Yep, stubborn me. I just have my phone so no need to hang with them and pretend I know anything at all.
As I wander along, I do manage to get a couple of nice pictures though.
Look how high the water is --- Crazy -- you can't even tell where the drop off is supposed to be.
I LOVE how the birds take to the trees. They seem so majestic just sitting there.
Water, water, water. It's crazy how much has come down the last couple of days.
I am always astounded at the storms in Texas. Love them, but they do fascinate me.
A few more shots from me (yes, these are all mine) for you to enjoy. They boys did a much better job, but they are developing their own and I don't want to wait.
Well, that's about it. As we are leaving, Grandpa shows me the birds catching fish along the spillway. We watch for quite awhile and it's amazing how many they catch. As we head back to the car, I spot this sign and have to laugh since it is exactly what the birds are doing.
4th - That's it. This week is a wrap and I can't believe Jacob goes home today. We are doing laundry and he has requested to make some cinnamon rolls for when his mom arrives. Once the dough is rising, it's off to the coffee shop for breakfast and then back to finish the job. Oh, and apparently, snuggling is required during the cooking time.
Looks good, huh? Thank you, Jacob, for spending some time with us old folks. We always wind up with the craziest stories to tell.
