Good Morning! We have Member Morning at the zoo and it starts at 8 so it's up and outta here for another fun-filled day. Today's special event is the giraffes - we are off to watch and learn.
Mom and baby - kind of shows the size difference. One of the many cool thing about giraffes is that they look just like a grown giraffe when they are born - only smaller. I know other animals do this as well, but many don't.
The grass is ALWAYS better.
Now for a quick walk - Painted Dogs are out -
We can hear that the lions are out - so can he.
I just missed his yawn - caught the teeth. Hahaha.
He's just so cool and this is not blown up. I'm inches away.
Lemurs are taking in some sun - this cracks me up every single time.
A springtime kerfuffle happening in the flamingoes. I didn't catch the wings up - but it's fun to watch.
Three new residents at the zoo. Capybara's are back!
Otters having fun as well. "I think I'll just sit on your head."
That's a quick view of today's walk. We are now headed to Bishop Arts District for some Mardi Gras fun.
There is a block party getting set up. We walk through real quick to stay out of the way.
And find food - it's needed as I'm turning into a very unpleasant person. I waited too long.
Now, with food in my belly and the tents ready, lets go through again. LOVE this tent top - it's just a seating area for drinks and music.
Some great music playing so we settle in and watch a bit.
When we hit the end of the road, we meander through another little set of tents and discover this hidden gem. This walkway between buildings (a really dressed up alley) is amazing.
At the other end of the alley is a HUGE market.
What was the name of the alley? Well here ya go - Bishop Lane. Definitely something to remember and I'd love to stay and explore more, but . . . the parade starts in 15 minutes and we have a bit of a walk. Time to go.
We've made it in time to get a nice spot and we can see them readying waaaaay down there.
Here they come - I'll just share photos unless commenting is required.
Strike a pose and thank you.
What do you suppose the elephant is saying?
Boy Scouts had a FABULOUS float/floats.
Time for an aqua fresca.
And to head home - my bead haul for this trip. Usually, I give these away as I leave, but we were near really horrid, screaming people the whole time and I was done. Until next year - that is. See ya around.
