St. Patrick's Day Parade and More

Wondering how to spend our Saturday, a decision was made to journey down to the St. Patrick's Day parade on Greenville.  In all the years I've lived in Dallas, this is one event we have never witnessed.  It's a train day!  Who on earth wants to try and find parking where 125k people are heading?  We park the car at White Rock Station and grab the train to Mockingbird Station.

A quick change and we are off at Lovers.  There's a bit of green around town today.

We are pretty early in the hopes of snagging an spot along the barrier.  Vendors are out in fine fashion.

Mounted Police going up and down the road as well.

I have managed to find a spot along the fence, but my sweetie heads out to see if there is a better one.

Nope - but he does find breakfast - hahahahaha.

I have managed to find a good spot along the fence and waited patiently for the parade to begin.  I think it's headed our way. Waaaaaay down there.  Mister is sitting on the ground behind me - mischievous Msiter.

Green behind me - many people deep.

And away we go -

Fabulous bagpipers - LOVED it.

I want an old red truck.  Truth!

All of that before the official start --- too funny.

I'll just share pics for a bit unless there's something that needs to be said.

Okay - notice the ground?  For some reason, that I don't understand, people are throwing tortillas in the parade.  Seems to be tradition and is expected.

Expected so much that there is this -

Really felt people should be peddling this.

Best costume I saw.

This place has cool balloons.

Irish colors!

Things that make you go hmmmm -

Lowrider cars came next - WAAAAY too many.  Over 40, for sure.  I lost interest quick.

Bookworm!!

Another cool red truck.

So this was awesome!!!  He moved - was very lifelike.

Here come the VW's.

I'll just share a few, but, once again, there were waaaaay too many.  At least 40.

Kalachandji's - Hare Krishna's

And that was pretty much it.  I was not impressed.  Honest.  Wouldn't do it again.  Over 100 cars took up 2/3 of the parade time.

Back on the train - green, green, green.

We decided to ride the rails for a bit and went north to Plano.  Austrian food for lunch in downtown Plano..

Back on the train and heading to Oak Cliff in Southern Dallas.  One end of the metroplex to the other.  Oak Cliff Brewing for a bit of libation.

Heading back to White Rock Station, via City Center - deep underground at this point.

Picked up the car and headed to Tony's for dinner.  It's truly been a fun day and we traveled all over the city for a total cost of $3.00.  No gas, no parking, no road rage issues.  Perfect.
