We are on the road again. Saying a temporary good-bye to Montana with one last look at the lake. This will ALWAYS feel like home to me.
We have so enjoyed the changing of the seasons while up here and they are still in that mix of two. The colors of fall and the white of winter are combining.
We left at 8 and by the time we see 9 - things have changed a bit.
By 10, it's not worse, but not better either.
At 11 we start to become concerned. Visibility is decreasing rapidly.
I pull up the radar and . . . hmmmm, a BIG storm and we are smack dab in it's line of fire.
It only takes 15 minutes of worsening conditions before we find an "authorized use only" turn-around and head back to Missoula. At this point we can't even see 5 feet in front of us and are a little on the nervous side.
We crawl into Missoula and find a hotel to camp out. It'll be for part of tomorrow as well as Mister has to work and had today off to travel. Crazy times, right? At some point, the snow has tapered off but the roads are a MESS and we've seen news reports of semis all over the place on the highway. It was a good decision, but not a fun one.
Settling in on the bed and watching a movie, I get the binding on my table runner. I'm SUPER glad I brought some hand projects to work on. I'd be going crazy otherwise.
The tummies are grumbling since it's 5 and we venture out to find something to eat.
NOTHING has been plowed yet.
Fortunately, it's only a couple of blocks to a brewery that serves food. Can I get a Hallelujah? Conflux Brewing Company is our guardian angel tonight.
I feel for these poor plants. I'm sure they were beautiful yesterday.
And food. It's decent, not grand, but met our needs. Time for some sleep.
10th - I'm loving this hotel life. NOT. My frustration is mounting all over the place and I'm just not a nice human. This seems to make sense. I'm ready to run.
Mister has to work for a bit and the highways are being worked on. I need a chill pill so I do the stitching on the wool project I had ironed pieces onto.
After locating an iron, I am ready to put more pieces on so that I can continue stitching while we travel. Loving this hotel sink area to work in.
ALL the pieces are on --- now, if I don't poke myself a hundred times, things will be good.
Finally, by 1:30 we are able to check out and get back on the road. Mister went to work at 5:30 this morning AND worked part of yesterday to make this happen. I'm sure he's beat. Here we go. At least the roads are clear - THAT is a bonus.
As the sun starts to peek through, the hillsides look beautiful, if not the roads at this point.
A train traveling alongside us --- it's kinda pretty too.
An hour in - I'm loving the views and doing very little stitching.
The Clark Canyon Reservoir is gorgeous and it's 4:30. At this point my fingers are crossed to make it over the pass before dark. Please!
Watching the sun get lower and lower, but the evening light become more beautiful as it does so is a double-edged sword.
We DO make it and guess what? Apparently, the road crews in Idaho are better than Montana or they just didn't get the same share of the storm. We are so thankful for clear roads to take us into Utah after dark.
And the sun is saying good-night.
There's Utah! Ya can't read it, but it's there.
Along with a beautiful moonrise.
We notice this ice crystal on the front window. I think it's a semi driving to the right or a backhoe facing left. My friends see a dinosaur. Yep, I shared it as boredom is at high levels now.
We did it. Nine-thirty sees us checking into our AirBNB and letting the stress of the day leave our bodies. What a crazy two days. It's a cute little apartment, though, and we are thankful for it. Take a peek around.
With that, I'm heading to bed to relax and Mister has found the television. See ya tomorrow.
