Happy Birthday Weekend Mister - Part 4 - Oak Cliff Mardi Gras

An early morning walk to the coffee shop starts out our day and then some necessary home chores take place, BUT -- the afternoon is all ours.  We are on our way down to Oak Cliff for the Mardi Gras parade and it's a drizzly, cold day.  Hmmmm --- last year it was just cold and now we get rain along with it.  Drat.  As we are driving, a quick look at the Leaning Tower of Dallas.  This has been in the news all week as the building that just won't go down.  It was imploded and this part still stands.  Perhaps there is a reason it wants to stay.

Once we locate a semi-close parking spot, we take up residency on the sidewalk and await the beginning of the parade.  Forty-five minutes until the supposed start time and so much to watch on the streets.  The umbrella group is a hoot.

The shop behinds us comes out with a whole box of "freebies" - beads for all and the kids start in right away.

Forty-five minutes comes and goes and it's closer to an hour later that the parade actually gets started.  We are near the beginning so it's not like it's going and just not to us yet.

I'll just share pics for a bit -

The year of the rat.

Mustache car.

Check out the beads mid-flight.

These "Elvis" dudes were here last year too.  Always a crowd pleaser.

I love when someone comes by and is filming the audience instead of the other way around.  Crack me up every time.  This guy has two cameras going at once.

My opinion --- best decorated vehicle.

Cold and . . . .

Best float - my opinion again.   More beads mid-flight.

My take --- one super fun one and no skin required to obtain it.  A simple please worked.  Dinner at a little Italian place right across the street from where we were standing and NO traffic to deal with on the way home.  Another great day with my sweetheart.
