Happy Birthday to Mister - Part 2 - Up to Sherman

On the road again and still heading north.  As we arrive in Melissa, it's a stop at Buc-ees to search for a new hat.

Unfortunately, luck is not on our side.  They DO have the hat we wanted, but they come in one size fits most and Mister is not most.  Drat.  It was a great price and a quick check online shows that they don't even make them in different sizes at all.  WTW?

All stops at Buc-ees require a restroom break and I want to state right here and now that one of the reasons I love this place is that they have this part of life down pat.  I've stated loudly many times that there needs to be either a sink or at the very least, hand sanitizer in the stalls and here it is.  Perfect.  Just add that to all the reasons this is the best place to stop when you are driving around.

Continuing north, Anna is next and as we drive through, this cool building stops us for a peek.

A. Sherley & Bro. Hardware Store.  Lewis and Paulina Sherley moved to North Texas from Kentucky about 1853.  When the town of Anna was established in 1872, their grandsons, brothers Andrew and Fred Sherley, opened a hardware store.  In 1894 they built this structure to house the business.  It remained in the family after the store closed in 1979.  Over time they were undertakers as well as purveyors of furniture, farming implements and machinery, wagon, cotton, grain and groceries.  Wagon-weighing scales in front of the building were removed when the road was widened.  The structure is a fine example of an early Texas commercial building, retaining the original canopy and painted signs.  Minimal Victorian-Era detailing includes corbelled brickwork in the parapet and paneled kickplates on the storefront display windows."

Do ya see Mister peeking in the windows?  We are SHOCKED at what is inside.  Truly.  Look close and you may be too.

Wow!!!

Now, to Sherman.  It is our turn-around spot and the reason is that we have located a brewery that we haven't visited yet.  We have enjoyed product from 903 before, but the brewery itself is our stop.  It has food and we haven't eaten since our donuts.  Food please.

Mister orders a burger, while I go with a pizza.  I don't care about the carbs today.  I'm starving and walking like crazy.

The brewer/owner, Jeremy Roberts, stops by to talk with us.  Yep, the same one who is running for County Commissioner as shown in the picture.  He shares some samples with us and visits for quite a bit.  LOVE how this happens.

A peek at the rest of the place.  We finish up our meal and head into Sherman for some shopping fun.  If you read and clicked the link in the first post, all the info was there.  If you didn't, here is the LINK once again.  It's time to point the car south and see where it leads us.
