Half of June has come and gone and I'm into Session two with the grands. Jared is here for a few days and this teenage sleeper loves his down time. I'm okay with that and we'll just take the days calmly and quietly. I spend the morning cleaning the bedroom and readying it for a visitor.
Meeting Jen off halfway to Abilene, the boy is in the car and I return the trek back to the house with Jared. Stopping at Central Market, groceries are purchased and then all that is required is a short wait for Mister to finish work while Jared settles in and dinner is at In N Out. Yep, pretty fancy, but I am too tired to cook.
Evening spent just chatting and finding out all that is going on in his life.
18th - My guest slept til noon. Did I get a lot done? Nope. I am pretty worthless sometimes. Once he's awake, some food and then I just tell him to get in the car. Last night he had mentioned that he had missed out on a movie he wanted to see and it's at the local dollar theater. As we get there I'm super stoked to surprise him, only to discover that he said Captain America, not Captain Marvel and it happened a long time ago. Chock that up to old age. However, he LOVED Captain Marvel and was more than happy to watch it again.
Love this pic.
From the movie it was home to make shrimp scampi for dinner. I found a new recipe I want to try out and it turned out pretty good, but I didn't take any pictures. I'll remake it and do it right.
For time with Grandpa, we are off to Nickelrama and games. I love playing pinball and Jared has his favorites too. This is a request from him and we're happy to fill it.
After wandering for a couple of minutes, I discover that the pinball machines have all been moved to a different location. What??? With a note for the cashier at the new location, we load back into the car and drive 1 1/2 miles. Why would you have a second location so close by? It's just so odd, but the pinball machines are there (not near as many as there used to be, but enough to keep me happy) and we all settle in once again.
The many, many tickets that Jared has net him some lollipops and Airhead candies. You gotta win a TON to get anything even remotely cool.
19th - My morning, while he sleeps and after a doctor appointment, adventure is making pickles and I am in the process of writing on all the labels of quilts that were finished the last couple of months. Jared returns to the living and I get him to help me outside so that all the photos are taken. He's a great sport and even though there are a lot, he powers through.
He's wanting to stay quiet and relax so I pack all the quilts away and rearrange some storage areas to get everything to fit. Now, there are project bins that need to go out back, but nowhere to put them with the longarm in pieces everywhere.
Mister needs to make a hardware store run after work and we tag along. Baby chickens will always get someone's attention. I love them so everyone must. I think pictures are going to the girlfriend.
If you tag along to do Grandpa errands, a reward can be had as well. Chocolate custard at Andy's.
20th - It's quiet again until after noon and I have rearranged schedules as Jared has had a conflict pop up and needs to return home a day early. When he surfaces from his man cave, the request is for brownies. We're making from scratch so a quick run to the store for cocoa powder and all is good. One picture and then I forgot the finished one as we were anxious to break into them. Hey, they were yummy.
While we were at the movie the other day, we saw a preview for The Hustle and I told him it just reminded me of an older movie that I loved called, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." He hadn't heard of it so today, we settled in together and watched while munching on brownies. So, so good for the diet, but I'm good with it.
Mister herds us out to the studio in the evening to put the longarm together while he has an extra set of hands. I am so thankful to both of them for this huge undertaking.
It's up and maybe I can get it into use next month. Maybe???
21st - Jared is returning home today, but first we are off to the Dallas Panic Room for an escape adventure. Here is how the description of our room reads: You and your team of secret agents have been tasked with the job of stealing a blueprint of a revolutionary design from Albert Winestein, a self-proclaimed boy genius. The blueprint is stashed somewhere in the classroom. You have 60 minutes before the class returns from a field trip, and only one chance to make history. Is your team up for the challenge?"
We meet up with a high school speech team from California that is in town for a competition and they are welcoming and willing to work together. Let's get this done. No, I won't tell you how or where the clues were in case you decide to go and play.
I will tell you that we were successful! One minute to spare, but our ethics were questionable. Shhhh.
We are off to Weatherford and a switch of boy. I'll be back home with Jon this evening. Thank you, Jared, for coming to play with me. I like spending time with you and hope to do it again soon. Love ya tons.
