Fall mornings are the BEST time for zoo walking. Mister has early morning entrance to the Dallas Zoo and we are off. The TIGER CUBS are supposed to all be out this morning and I'm excited. One is already two years old and the twins are approaching one. Goodness, time flies. Along the way, the tamarins are out and these babies have grown sooooo much as well.
Saki Monkey moment.
Now, lets see if we can find those cubs and "maybe" get a picture or two. I think this is one of the hardest habitats to photograph, but it's also one of the best for the animal itself.
As we walk from one viewing place to another, a quick stop to see the Colobus baby - do you see it?
Back to the tigers and they are up close to the window - the twins.
It always feels like, somebody's watching me.
Okay - time to move on. Hello there grand old lady.
A sleeping anteater - up close and personal.
More tortoise fun --- the one in the water has the right idea.
On the move -
We go past the non-existent sloths (I jokingly - maybe- say that it is the greatest lie the zoo has ever told. We have NEVER seen them in over 2 years.) However, the Harpy Eagle is out and about. So many giggles ensue. I just LOVE the way he looks like he is wearing overalls.
As we are watching the Harpy, a HUGE commotion is taking place back where the sloths, titi monkeys and toucans live. Mister decides to walk back and OMG --- all three sloths AND the monkeys AND the toucans are out now. They DO exist and I take back my "greatest lie" statement. To top everything else off, they are ACTIVE.
These two keep coming up to the fence and "kissing" through it. Cutest thing I've ever seen. There's even a monkey in this pic.
Let's not leave the toucan out.
Back to the anteater --- some movement has occurred.
One last look at the sloths and we are moving on.
Now, back to the birds - where we left off.
A quick stop at the lemurs to watch an fabulous tree race (no pics, just enjoyed every minute of it) and a nice talk with the keeper. Stay tuned for more babies, hopefully.
Quiet hippos with an Okapi in the background
Another one a little closer up.
A very large croc -
Out to the savanna, where we discover that all of the animals are together today. How fun is this? How many different species can you spot?
With that -- lunch time has arrived and Manhattan Project is the ticket. Yum. That's it for our morning.
