Beachtime - Day 4 - Daytripping to Matagorda

Good Morning from Surfside Beach!  We're up for the Golden Hour and have our toes in the sand while it is still fairly dark out.  Come along and watch the beauty that Mother Nature provides to those who slow down a bit and take the time to watch.

It's beautiful!

Within moments of the previous picture, things RAPIDLY changed.

We took those pictures of the fisherman and then realized that the whole beach was changing.

Down the beach there is a wave of fog coming our way and our line of vision is quickly being reduced.

It's pretty eerie out.

Even looking back the way we came, fog is encasing us.

The meeting of the minds is still happening though.

This one has managed to find a fish head left on the beach, but is having to work to keep it to itself.

Lone man on the beach.

The sun is really TRYING to come through.

Well, it was still an interesting sunrise, for sure.

Time to get dressed and go on roamabout for a bit.  First stop is the jetty -

View the other way -

It's amazing how large these ships are and how large the canal is when one is right down on it.

Now, we're off towards Matagorda and a stop in Brazoria feeds my fabric needs.

From there - we discover the harbor in Matagorda and stop to watch a barge being pushed into dock.

This tug is pretty fun to see up close.

Now - out to the beach - down the long road between areas of marsh.  It's beautiful, though.

Do you see what I see?

We reach the beginning of the walkway to the water - but beside it is a more direct route to the beach.  At least that is what it says.

We're opting for the walkway.

As we walk, the landscape changes below us and we can see water in the distance.

These vines look so pretty against the sand.

Just keep walking, just keep walking . . . looking back to where we started.

Ahead -

We've made it to the bridge.

Where we've crossed - check out the posts.

Up ahead - jetty walkway.

It appears there used to be a different walkway or bridge at one time.

When we return to the car - this is where we went as far out as the eye can see.

A quick stop at the nature center and this blue heron is standing guard along the Colorado River.  Look that one up in case you are confused.

A hummingbird keeps zipping around us.

As we start our return trip past the marshes -

Once back in Matagorda, lunch is necessary so a stop at Poco Playa Fish Camp seems right.

We are just about the only customers in the place and it is a HUGE restaurant.  Off-season fun.  Happily, I enjoy my meal and feel revitalized.

The drive back is leisurely and peaceful.  Back on the beach, strangeness comes into play.  At least he's fully committed.

A light dinner from the fridge.  I LOVE that we just bring stuff from home and can eat on deck.

Sunset begins -

Time to walk and stretch out the legs once again.

Ahhhhh - pelicans.

Isn't this just gorgeous?

Remnants of afternoon fun.

Another day has come to an end.  We are off to dreamland and will see you tomorrow.
