It's ZOO day! That's is always Mister's favorite and it was also a request of the kids. I'm trying to help Zyra tame her hair down here as it does the same thing mine does --- puff up.
We have early tickets and are thankful, because it's already feeling warm. Off to the hippos we go.
I spot them all over at the Okapi while I watch for the hippos.

Okapi butt. One would think they are related to a zebra, but no. Think giraffe - that is their closest relative.

We send the kids to the window as it appears that there might be some fun happening. We don't get to see Mom and baby hippo today, but Gus is having a great time.
He decides to do a roll for us.
BUT, it fails. Too funny.
He can't recover.
Gives up and heads out.

Zyra has picked up a friend along the way.
So, this chimpanzee has a tool (stick) and is digging down inside the "termite" mounds to find food. It's pretty fascinating to watch.
Fence is in the way, but check out the colors on this bird.

This vulture is wounded and is talking with the kids. She even shows them her problem so that they understand better.
Over at the Savanna, the ostriches are being entertained.
Although the Kudu, doesn't care a bit about what is going on.
What is it? Well, these two zebras are having a bit of fun. Soon, they are off.
But, return quick - splashing others as they go.
At this point, the ostriches start to show their feelings. Are they happy or upset with the behavior? I can't tell, but they are flourishing their wings.
Baby giraffe! It's just so dang cute.
The kids get a rare chance to actually feed the baby. They let them lean way over and put it down near her.
Each one gets several chances to treat the small one.

Last fall, we spotted this new activity at the zoo and haven't given it a try yet - today is the day. VR and Gorillas. By the way --- it was pretty good.
