Out and About - Zoo and East Texas

A holiday weekend and a need to get out and about for for a bit has this day off to a good start.  Mister snagged tickets to Member Morning at the zoo and today's first interaction is with the gorillas.  Enjoy these pics and I'll continue typing below.

Love this look.

It's hot out.  I'm gonna sit with my feet in the water if y'all don't mind.

"feels like somebody's watching me"

Just chillin'.

Now, onto the hippos.  Perhaps we'll catch them up and moving before it gets too terrible hot out.  We are in luck and all three are out.  Gus is checking out the habitat pretty thoroughly.

Meanwhile, the girls are at the other end of the pond.

As I go down by the viewing window --- I'm in luck and Gus is wanting to perform as he repeatedly passes the window rolling each time.

Over in the corner, Adanna is just hanging out with her bum right up near the window.  Closest I'll ever get to a hippo backside.

Back to Gus -

And the ladies still haven't moved.  Mom is eating and Adanna is just resting on a rock.

Time to move on ---- I read that there is a new lemur baby and want to peek.  We are in luck as they are out and moving to find the perfect spot to hang out.

Mister says there is a baby tamarind, so that's our next stop.  In fact, there are two, but they are super challenging to spot.  We stand for a really long time and are rewarded with up close views, but the pictures are not wonderful.

At this point, we're hot and head home to relax for a bit before driving out to Mt. Pleasant and spending a couple of hours with Mister's brother and his wife.  They have a new home for us to check out and we have a nice time chatting.  A few hours later, we are on our way to Pittsburg and Anvil Brewing.  Dinner and a beer (Colonial Porter)--- perfect way to end our stay here.  We had hoped for fireworks tonight, but I read the ad wrong.  Bad on me.

It's time to make the trek home and the sunset is wonderful to watch.

Mister has to stop for gas and it just happens to be right next to a DQ.  Now, THIS is the perfect end to our day.  Home by 10:30 and calling it a day.
