Mister suggested a run down to the lake for a few minutes of wonder. It's our own On Golden Pond. The sights, sounds, and sheer beauty of it fascinate both of us. Tonight is absolutely gorgeous here in Texas and although I have a jacket on, it's not uncomfortable at all. Enjoy the pictures just as I took them -- they haven't even really been edited -- and in the order they were taken. Relax in the peace and at the end of this post there is a video to thoroughly enjoy.
When we arrive, I just barely catch the last remnants of the sun.
The direction we are looking changes the lighting --- again, fascinating.
While we sit and watch, many of the birds take flight, all heading for their night roosts/nests. Upon arriving, there were about 50 pelicans, hundreds of ducks/coots, 25-30 geese, and an unknown, but very large, contingent of cormorants.
Soon, the outer area is almost emptied out.
Up close --- there is still a lot of activity. I didn't get a very good picture of the egrets, but look how many have flown in to roost in that tree for the night. When we arrive, there was only 1.
The geese cruise by to say good-night as well.
I've lightened this one a bit so that you can see the pelicans departing.
That bright stay in the upper left corner is the two planets, Jupiter and Saturn. Yes, they can still be seen here.
Throughout the evening, small videos have been made and I've cut them into one to share. Just sit back, listen and watch for all of two minutes. It's worth it and you'll even see pelicans take flight for the night nest. It's been a wonderful evening and gets topped off with an even more spectacular sight once we are home. Unfortunately, no cameras were grabbed, but two beautiful gray fox were playing in our backyard and we were blessed to watch for at least 5 minutes. Fear of moving and scaring them off kept us from retrieving a camera. Living in the moment!!
