Bird Watching and Giggles - Just Us Two

Wanting to get out of the house for just a bit, we drove down to the lake to settle in and watch the birds for a bit.  I have discovered just how much I love this.  No wonder Thoreau wrote about it.  I feel as though this is our own rather large "Golden Pond."  As we arrive, the pelicans are sunbathing on the island.

I'm making a beeline to the dock and this goose is keeping a careful watch on me.

A few stragglers are out in the water, but one is joining in.

So much going on --- the activity in the water and in the air is continuous.

And the exodus from the island begins.  Pelicans on parade.

Some are "outta here."

With more rapidly following -

Soon, only a few remain.

Sounds of the Lake - Pelicans --- come into my world.

At one point, the pelicans started returning and I was treated to a few right in front of me.  My camera was resting and I'd never noticed that they basically water ski when they land.  OH my goodness.  Each time one landed, I just giggled and giggled.  Finally, I grabbed my camera -

Pelicans landing

It was such a nice time and the day is wonderful.  As we leave, this cottonwood is just vibrant and the picture doesn't do it justice.  Isn't the bark grand?

Mister and I opt to stop at Dugg Burgers for lunch.  When they asked for the name on the order, he actually said Doug (never does --- it's always something like Hans) and they just couldn't spell it.  When I said Deb --- more issues.  Look closely at the names they wrote on the papers.  These are our future leaders.

Back home for a bit and then a late afternoon trip down to Manhattan Project to enjoy a beer in the open air.  This day is to be enjoyed to the fullest.  It's December and we are outside without jackets.

Mister takes my camera to capture the airplane passing a cell tower overhead.

As we are driving back into the city ---- oh yes.  The sunset on downtown is simply beautiful.  It's a perfect way to end the day.
