Zoo Fun in Dallas - Everyone Loves the Sun

We're feeling as though some of our usual routine has been off lately.  It's time to get back on track and do the things we really enjoy.  Our Dallas Zoo membership is one of those things and we're going to put it to good use today.  It's member morning, so we're in early and ready to enjoy the shenanigans that will surely come our way.  First stop is the lemurs and they are out, but just barely.  In fact, one of them came out, grabbed food and went straight back inside.  It IS a bit chilly this morning (56 degrees) and I guess they are not used to it either.  However, a couple others have found some sunlight and are beginning their day outside.  Today's member event is in Zoo North - thus we turn right at the lemurs and come upon the flamingos, also basking in the sunlight.

Member morning is with the Galapagos tortoises.  Ummmm - it appears they are not interested in the cold either.

One lone sweetie has come out and is enjoying some soft touches and loving from the keeper.

She, the keeper, then smashes a pumpkin and places the parts around the yard.  It doesn't take long for our ambassador to turn and start the trek towards yummies.

It IS a bit of a trek as the parts have been moved very close to us.  I'm super excited because I think she is going to pick the one closest to me.

Yep --- I have the best view!!!  Time to have some fun.

The pumpkin just won't hold still --- enter foot into the process.

This is just sooooo good.

With a second pumpkin being smashed outside their door ---- here come the others.

Enough for all.

Sunning is the main activity today ---- anteater soaking up the rays.

Mane wolves (not really wolves) also enjoying the light.

Mister talks me into the reptile house and I'm not a real fan of it.  It's not the reptiles, it's the lack of air circulation in here that gets to me EVERY time.  However, I'll give it a go - we spot a new-to-us and the zoo lizard.  It is a Sailfin Lizard from the Philippines.  There are two in the habitat --- and they put on a show for us.  The first one starts walking and -

That gets this one curious --- or angry -- we are not sure which, but he starts huffing.

At this point, he darts after the first one, sending him up against the window and into the water below.  I'm too shocked to take pictures --- they they retreated to opposite ends of the tank.

A little further down, this fella has just had his habitat washed down and he is enjoying the water refreshment.  Catching his tongue out is definitely a challenge and out of 40 pictures, here is what I managed to get:

Fun to watch --- I know, I'm an odd one.

Onto the otters --- one is out sunning  and dusting himself.

Rolling around with a piece of corn.

Time to do a peek at the other side -- we hit the Okapi talk at the right time and get to have some great time here.  These are just so dang pretty.  Yummy Ficus.

As we breeze past the crocs --- this is something you don't see too often.  Yep, he's sunning himself as well and with mouth wide open.  Interesting.

Oooooh, some gorilla fun.

It's a very tiring day.

ALL of the elephants are out and we hit the keeper talk right on time as if we planned it.  This is certainly our day for having time with the keepers.  Even the baby elephant is in the large yard.

Lots of activity today --- makes one thirsty.

And - a final glace at one more group enjoying the sun.  Lion luxury.  See y'all next trip.
