Thanksgiving in 2020. For many it is such a different experience. Luckily, for us, the entire Abilene family has had COVID within the last month and "we think" they cannot carry it. Mister and I know we don't have the virus so it's a road trip to gather together. We decide to make the trip on Wednesday afternoon and OMG. You cannot believe the traffic we encountered. I think everyone is on the move. We wound up using the express lane from the minute we got on the interstate until right near Weatherford. Yep, it goes that far without a break. It'll cost a fortune, but I'm sure we saved an easy 2 hours judging from how the traffic was stopped on the main road for almost the whole distance. Wow.
Upon arriving at Jens ---- ooooh, it's so pretty. She is already decorated for Christmas and I love it. The white nativity on the mantle was either made by her or me. I just can't remember. I KNOW I made a white one and no longer have it. Hmmmm. Her stockings are magnificent.
This nativity is spotted. I made this in 2004. Very cool that it is still standing when you have five children, four of which are boys and love throwing things.
We have a nice evening just visiting and catching up with one another. Then its off to bed and tomorrow will be a busy day.
Fortunately, many hands make light work. I'll share the pictures and you can see how each person had their own assignments. Jon and Jacob were in charge of potatoes. Louis and I were making the green bean casserole and couldn't decide how big the pan needed to be. He placed the empty cans in the larger pan and declared it perfect. By his reasoning, I tried the smaller pan. What do you know? They fit there too.
Once the casserole is made, I help Jared with his pumpkin pie.
Josh is working on a chocolate cream pie and handling it well.
Once the major chores are finished, Jon starts in on the sweet potatoes and somehow wires get turned and he is making a casserole. Unplanned, but, hey, it may be super good. All boys are on high alert with it.
Mister helped getting the turkey in and Louis is handling the gravy. It's all set and now we wait. That means there is time for some games. Jen handily wins against me in mere seconds.
She has a bit more difficulty with Mister.
Then it's onto a mystery packet for some brain cell use.
Preparing the table and dinner. I'm starving and it all looks delicious.
A brief moment --- smile you too.
I think it's funny, but the meal appears to be yellow. It never occurred to me before, but it's what she makes each year.
I love these moments with family. We're so happy to have been invited and share the day together. Yep, Mister is taking the picture. Happy Thanksgiving to all and please remember that you always have something to be thankful for --- even in 2020.
