A last-minute opportunity came up Tuesday and we quickly arranged schedules to take advantage of it. Leaving town on Thursday after Mister finished work, the crazy drive to Abilene took place. It was CRAZY for the first hour as we simply worked our way out of the Metroplex. Icemageddon was working it's way out and the roads were thawing, but slushy. We were in solid rain until we hit Weatherford and it magically stopped when the weather guy said it would. I know, right? When are they EVER that accurate. At any rate, things picked up after that and the roads were dry the rest of the way. Hallelujah!!
Early the next morning, everyone is up and moving. We still have the drive to Lubbock, but my sweetie has a bit of work to do first. Once Jen and Louis leave, I'm ready and just waiting on my love. Grace comes to visit while I wait. Times like this do make me want a cat again, but the hair everyone just does me in. Someday I'll be ready to tackle that again, just not yet.
We get on the road just a little after 8 and point the vehicle north to Lubbock. This is a first time visiting the city for both of us. The view? Lots and lots of generator windmills.
The trip is about 2 1/2 hours and we've left without any subsistence. Mister takes a business route through Snyder, TX in search of a coffee shop. We do locate J316 downtown and make a stop.
It's a cute little shop with only two ladies in front of us and yet . . . it takes FOREVER to get waited on. The two gals behind the counter are happy souls, I'll give them that - but, apparently one speed is all they've got. Normally, that wouldn't matter, but we are heading to an event that begins at 11. I did say it was cute, right?
Now - here is something you don't see often on your coffee cups. I'll give kudos for this.
Back in the car and off to Lubbock. We arrive right at 11 as the meet begins. Yay us! However, Jared doesn't have his first race for almost an hour. I guess we didn't have to rush quite as much. He does stop up to say howdy. Cute guy - terrible picture.
His first race is a 50 Free and he is in lane 5. He finishes with a time of 23:44 and we are hoping that is enough for top 8. Time will tell.
He doesn't have another race for a bit so we walk around the corner to a Fuzzy's for lunch. Food sounds great right now as all we've had is a cup of coffee and a terrible scone. I do mean terrible.
Bekah met up with us at the meet and her guy, Ash, joins us for lunch. He orders her a crazy Oreo churro for dessert. It doesn't look so appealing - does it?
It's hot!
I'm not sure why I didn't take any photos of the whole group, but it is what it is. Time to walk back.
The next race is a relay - the kids are in lane 6 but I've only managed to get Jared's leg to load here. They will make top 8 for this one.
That race is followed by Jared's 100 backstroke, but for the life of me, I can't get it to load here. After that one, there is a chance for another visit from him. This time, I do grab a pic or two.
With Jen -
With moi -
Love the differences in a moment like this -
One more relay (which is too long to load - they make top 8 again) and we are outta here for today. Now to check into our hotel. Mister was able to use points AND had a free night coming so this was super affordable. Nice. Downtown Courtyard by Marriot.
After a brief rest, we are off to Bekah's house to spend time with her and Ash. I've brought a quilt for her new place so, let's get that done.
She instantly carts it upstairs and puts it on her bed.
The place is a super cute and HUGE loft. She has more square footage than we do and I'm amazed at all the rooms.
Time to just chat for a bit.
The plan for the evening is an Art Walk and it's time to go.
The walk begins at Two Docs Brewing - so we might as well stop in.
It's their first anniversary and a spot that Bekah has wanted us to see.
Bekah and Ash
Hmmmm - I remember these. Learned to type this way.
By now, the hungries are getting to me and we find an Italian restaurant that Ash loves.
Off to dinner at Italian place - alas, no pictures. It's been a great day! Love, love, love time with family.
Well, my ideas of why you two had the giggles were certainly more interesting than the facts. Improbable. Unprobable? Whatever - Impossible!!!
