Sunday Zoo Again

We absolutely have done what we said we were going to do yesterday.  We are back at the zoo and waiting for the hippos.  It is a BEAUTIFUL day out - nice and cool -- especially compared to yesterday.

As we wait for the hippos to enter, the water tech is standing nearby and we are able to talk with him for quite awhile.  He explains about how the power was off yesterday and in just that short time, they lost the clear water and it would take a few days to get it back.  He also explained how difficult it is at the zoo when they lose power.  Crazy.  Fortunately, he also has the inside track on a lot of the goings on with the hippos and could share a great deal of info there too.  Score.

Finally, here they come.

And straight into the water.

The second one follows suit.  No stopping for breakfast today.

It was such a quick glimpse of them out of the water, but we did get a peek.  Time for the morning swim.

And settle in for the day on a rock.  Yep.  Life is good.

The new baby giraffe, Whitten, was not out yesterday but is supposed to be this morning.  Off we go for our first viewing of him.  He does not disappoint.

Mom stops for a few seconds and he wastes no time.  My view.

And Mister's angle

It's time for a romp.

With a video to boot -

The little guy is just too cute for words.

On our way past the elephants, we discover that Ajabu is out and the whole gang is playing.  First with sand -

A quick nurse.  Do you see the bent knees?  Auntie moved in to block the view and give them some privacy.

Then the mud

Then the water.  This is first for us.  Three of them play in the water for at least 10 minutes while we watch.  They leave and go back to the mud, get all dirty and head for the water again.  What joy to watch.

A quick little video --- actually two put together.

Since the weather is so nice, we head over to Zoo North today and see what's up there.  Ahhhh, the flamingos are nesting.  Soooo fun.

Without going into the bird show, as we stand at the back, one of the stars swoops in for a quick treat.

And that's it for today. We are off to the house to prepare for the week.  As we are watching a show, I glance out the window and my daughter shows up with flowers.  What a crazy surprise!  She lives over 3 hours away and I certainly wasn't expecting this.  Thank you, Jen.  I love you so much.
