Saturday Zoo Morning

We have a weekend all to ourselves and have opted to combine some walking with some animal watching.  It's a member morning weekend at the zoo, meaning we can get in early and have some special moments.  It's a plan and off we go.

Upon our arrival, there is an encounter in the warthog habitat and thus our direction is set.  As we pass the elephants, one stops to stare right back at us.  Seems fitting.

The warthog keeper is full of fantastic information and we stay for almost 45 minutes gleaning as many facts as we can.  We remember when one of these was just a baby and can't believe how much time has passed since then.

Climbing and posing --- how fun.

Some genuine affection.

As we move on, hope for a close up of the lions is dashed, but a view is a view.

Back to the elephants.  We can't help but smile and giggle as this one has hay stuck in her tusk.

She finally leans against the rock and check out her back legs.  She's just chillin'.

Oh, time to rest the other leg and she has finally obtained her food correctly.

The zoo is officially open so we head over to the hippos in the hope of catching them before they enter the habitat and maybe watch them move a bit.  Nope --- they are already quite content sleeping on a rock.

We make the decision to return tomorrow and come here FIRST -- perhaps we will catch them then.  On the way out, this stork is determined to woo me.  Seriously, he puts on quite the show for me no matter where I stand.

A quick wander through the Gorilla trail and it's time to head out.

Back home and then we decide to run a couple of errands.  After the first one, the car reads this as we leave the parking lot.

Making a pit stop at Home Depot and the temp in the car is now crazy hot.  Even after driving home, it only reduces back to about 109.  Ugh.

Perfect time for a gin and tonic.  Yep, it's the season, for sure.
