The kids are back in school and I'm actually going to work on a project or two or three. Yes, I have three retreat projects going for April and May. It's a lot of pencil and fusible web work today with some ironing thrown in for good measure. worked on project ALL DAY, Late pickup of Raef chicken and pasta in oven for ryan to handle had to go to town first thing as lacrosse gear not allowed on bus
Caleb rides the bus home all by himself and that is a big deal. I pick him up at the stop and offer cookies when he walks in. I love the way he is sitting. Too cute.
Ryan gets delivered to the house after his practice and I have a chicken casserole in the oven for dinner. It is not quite ready when I have to leave and go pick Raef up from practice. Leaving Ryan with instructions to take it from the oven and feed Caleb and himself, I am off for at least a one hour round trip.
I arrive before practice is over so get to watch a bit. Now, I'll be honest and let you know that it takes me some time to discover which one is Raef. I don't know his number and with the helmet on, it's tough.
I've never watched a la crosse game but the practice is very interesting to me. I can see where it could be lots of fun to attend a game.
They are practicing indoors since the weather isn't all that wonderful yet, but outdoors would certainly complicate the game. Here, the ball never really goes out of bounds.
It's pretty late when we get home and although there isn't any school tomorrow, we are going into town so I want them rested, thus it's bed time. I stay up late and get my samples cut out along with all the others kitted up. Whew.
Yeah -- a productive day for me. Those feel so nice. Tomorrow is a play day so I should get some sleep too. See ya.
28th - There isn't any school today so we are off to Montrose to check out the new recreation center. It was open over the weekend, but we thought it would likely be packed and since Montrose IS in school today, this is a better time to go. The drive is nice and we spot an freezing fog that moved through the valley overnight, leaving beautiful crystals in it's wake.
The closer we get to Montrose, the further down it came until at last it is actual snow. They boys are fascinated as I explain just what took place.
It is simply breathtaking and we drive super slow to check it out. If the sun had been out, everything would have sparkled like crazy. Of course that's assuming it would have still been there and not melted.
We arrive at the rec center to discover that Caleb is too young to go into the pool area without a suited adult. That was not anywhere on the website and I didn't even bring a suit with me from Texas, much less Telluride. Ugh. We go over to Penney's and $135.00 later, Caleb can now swim. OMG. Best line through all of this is by Caleb as we walk into Penney's. "They don't have toys in here Gam." No, no they don't.
On the bright side, I needed a new suit anyway. The only thing is that I had just ordered two new ones and they hadn't arrived yet when I left town. Crazy. Now, I'll have three new suits at some point in time.
While in the changing room, I discover that the clerk left the "theft" tag on my suit. They were working on their alarm system and I guess that's how I got out of the store. Now I get to walk around with this "thing" attached to me. Fun times.
The water is a bit chilly and it seems worse so in the children's area so Caleb only spends a bit of time there.
The boys have made it to the lazy river and I try to grab a couple of pictures while watching Caleb.
Soon, we locate a life jacket for Caleb and he joins them in the river. Once I get a couple of pictures, I have to go in with him. I guess I'm swimming.
Then Ryan gets to put the camera back while we warm up. It's decided that we are done but need to go to the other side of the room to get our towels and return the lifejacket. That is where the water slide is, so the older boys make a couple more runs each and we are off to the showers.
Once everyone is dressed again, they want to play basketball for awhile. Absolutely. Have at it. Run off some more steam. That's why we are here.
Caleb even joins them for a few minutes and I try oh so hard to get a memory of it.
The next stop is Subway for lunch. Yes, we are starving and yes, that is their choice. AFter a "pay it forward" moment that gives me a chance to teach the boys something, we only have one more stop to make before going home. We still need that maple syrup. While at the store we find some new movies and dang, if you get movies you have to get Dr. Pepper, popcorn, and licorice. Right?
As we drive home, I decide that I'm not sure if Raef could actually curl into any smaller of a ball. He is all legs these days.
Leftovers and movies are the afternoon and nights fun. Period.
29th - Today I am bit smarter. I KNOW that I need to drive to school with the equipment so we are more prepared. The day is so pretty out. I snap a picture through the windshield (I think that's why the sky is so watery blue?) and just enjoy the drive.
After dropping the boys off, we get to Caleb's school a wee bit early and he wants to go to the book fair. It's not open yet, so we will try again after school but he is given a chance to show me around his room. I love how each corner needs to be described and his enthusiasm for it. Great moment.
Back at the house, I spend the entire day working on my personal blog. Oh goodness. Why did I let it get so far behind? I am super hopeful that by the time I leave here, I will be down to 13 entries in draft format. That's closer than I've been in a very long time and they are all still from 2016. Procrastination is never a good thing. Yes, I should listen to myself more often.
Back into town after school to pick up Caleb and do the book fair. Yeah. It is successful.
Now we have time to kill while waiting for Ryan to finish la crosse. Raef is spending the night with his dad tonight so I'm down to just two of them.
The library is the choice over the park and off we go.
I have to admit that the after school program at the library is one of the best I've ever seen. A LOT of kids come here when school let's out and the library handles it so well.
They even provide a nice, healthy yogurt snack for all who wish to imbibe. Caleb tries it with strawberries and granola and claims it "so good that I'm going to have it like this at home from now on."
It's time to collect Ryan so back to the arena we go. This time I get to watch Ryan for a few minutes, but only a few as Caleb chose to wait in the car.
He is a little easier for me to spot and thus I am able to grab more pictures before the practice comes to an end. Now, keep in mind they are through a plexiglass barrier and are moving fast. That means blurrrrrr.
Whew - everyone is now in the car and off to the house. Dinner and Free Willy for the evening. Another day in the books.
30th - I spend today doing laundry from the past week and I am absolutely amazed at the lack of underwear. What is it with boys and changing their underwear? I have three boys. They have showered every other night. There are two pair TOTAL of undies. Ewwwww.
There is a beautiful blue bird that has been outside the windows everyday but I have been unable to catch him standing still long enough to get a picture AND all the windows except one have screens. This is the best I can do and I discover that it is a Stellar's Jay. The color is brilliant and he is sure busy in the yard.
When the boys get home from school and ninja class, it's finally time to get that maple snow candy made. We have made it before and I put the recipe in that post. You can find it HERE. The snow in the freezer has become a brick so I put it in a plastic bag and bash the heck out of it with a rock. It's still lumpy but it will work.
Everyone gets to help a little bit, but this stuff is super hot so I do most of the work.
We let it get a little too hot. Funny since last time it wasn't quite hard enough. Next time it will be just perfect. For some reason the texture doesn't slow these guys down one little bit and they eat this stuff up until I have to make them stop.
We finish out the night - our last night together - with pizza, popcorn, Dr. Pepper, and another new movie - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Excellent. What a great time we have had together. I am so sad to go and yet ready for time with my sweetheart. Besides, I'll see these guys in Florida in twelve days. Woohoo.
31st - Once I take the boys to school, that's it. I'm on my own today as they are going to their dad's tonight and for the next 9 days of their spring break. On the way into town, we have Elk!!!
Grandpa gave us a great idea last night so we are on the road a bit early and having breakfast at the donut shop. Yep, going healthy today. Oh those smiles. Love, love, love them.
Drop offs and good-byes are never easy and although there were tears last night, I remind them this morning that it's only 12 days. We can do it.
The day is spent cleaning the house and preparing for my departure tomorrow morning. I do find some time to finish prepping my samples and MAYBE I'll even take out some thread while at the airport or in the air tomorrow. It could happen. Stop shaking your head at me.
I am also enjoying the birds out back and I think I have discovered the mate to the beautiful Stellar Jay. At least they are working together gathering materials for a nest so I'm assuming it is her.
Well, that's it. Now to go pack. I'm going home. My sweetie has gotten me on an earlier flight tomorrow due to an incoming storm. Woot woot. I'm ready to see him.
