Zoo Morning Plus a Few Other Stops

Mister is soooo good at getting me up and moving every so often.  It's needed as the pit is quite deep right now.  The television and I are great friends.  However, today we are off to the zoo for some morning walking, eye candy, and a "not in the house" day.  The Lesser Flamingo juveniles are out and about -- love to watch the littles.

Early morning keep talk is with the Okapi -- always fun.  I think I got some of the best pics EVER!!

Want to see one in action?  Here ya go.

The hippos are right next door and all four are out today.  It's so fun when we get to the see the whole family together.  Activity is not high, though, as much as I wish it would be.

There is a new Blue Duiker in the OLD meerkat exhibit.  Many different animals have lived here, but the newest resident is soooo cute and sooo tiny.  These guys get about 20 inches at the shoulder and reach a weight of 8-20 pounds.  It is a member of the antelope family and lives in Central and Southern Africa.

We have baby chimpanzees!!!  Catching a view of them can be tough when they are still so very small.  Mom is carrying one in this pic, but so hard to see.

Both Moms have one each here.

They're just not ready to show them off yet.

There's a tiny hand.

I have to laugh at the Silverback Gorilla as he poses for me.  It's no joke - he knows I'm here and is watching me.

He even takes it a step further.

And more -- quite the show he is putting on.  Mister and I are the only two here to see this.

Looks at me one more time and takes another pose.

Over in the family area - juveniles at play, but Auntie is on her way over to put a stop to it.

They watch her pass and start right back up.

Elephants on the Savanna.  Our little one is certainly growing up.

Fun way to walk up on giraffes.  Being watched by her child.

"What are you doing, Mom?"

"I wonder if I can do that."  No effort went beyond the curiosity.

Young Collared Lemurs are out as well.  She's keeping them pretty protected, but we'll watch for a bit.

Dad is also around, but little heads pop out now and then.

Quite a few heads here.  There are four littles and mom in this pic.

Walking complete - heading back through downtown and the skyline looks cool in this light.

Trying a new coffee shop - Mister is after an espresso - Black Sheep.  Was a bit challenging as they wanted people to order from kiosks that didn't work.  Doesn't leave a great first impression.

Next door is Burger House for brunch (opens at 11, hence the wait at the coffee shop) and then we just wander around for a bit before ending up at Vector for dinner.  Was a nice day together.
