Easter Weekend - Family, Food, Furry Friends, and Fun

Easter Weekend has arrived and it's just us again.  We've decided a little bit of family would be nice and still have the chance to wander together so we are off to the Lake Whitney area.  Jen and her crew are camping there for the weekend and we are just gonna stop by and spend a couple of hours.  But first --- coffee.  Overflow Coffee Company in T B Bond Emporium is perfect.  We are able to nab a seat and people watch for a bit.

In one little nook under the stairs I spot a dollhouse and other toys.  Little ones can let off some energy and yet not be running throughout the shop.

Mister spots these --- always fun moments of things I love.

To top it all off, they are setting up for some live music today.  This place is really doing it's best in such a crazy world.  Ya gotta give kudos when possible.  I know I would not want to be running any type of small business during the past year.  It just has to be difficult.  Period.

Just down the block --- a lovely courthouse.  I'm sure I've shown this one before, but with the sky, it looks beautiful today.  Very grand.

I've finally connected with Jen and know where they are at.  Let's roll.  It's just half an hour away and they are getting ready for another day.  They boys are all around the campfire, which needs help and Mom has gone to obtain a bit more wood for it.  As soon as she is back, fun times begin.

Mister is enjoying the moment outdoors and away from the campfire.

Yes, it's lovely - right on the lake and river.

With the first few bluebonnets making themselves known.

We decide on a walk down by the river/inlet.  I'm just not sure what it is.

What I am sure of is that it's pretty and peaceful.

So . . . . let the rock skipping commence.

I've decided to wander a bit.  Back up by the campsite - an Indian Paintbrush showing it's colors.

And across the campsite road --- the lake sits in all her glory.

More bluebonnets.

Back to the campsite, a trip to the restroom, and an idea for a game.  As we return, this is the look the boys give us upon sharing our idea.

Mister is off to set up the "folf" goals.

With help from others.

Round one -

Back my way in a later round.

Now to color Easter eggs.  Yes!

It's almost time for us to continue on our way, but a quick trip to the dam for everyone takes place first.  Down we go.  We have been here before but it is new to Jen's family.  If you want more details, here is a LINK to my original post.

Some are not as interested.  At all.

Time for good-byes.

Followed by a quick stop to see take a picture of more bluebonnets.  As I bent down to snap this shot, my knee would not cooperate.  Awesome.

One more stop for my sweetie.  I haven't seen his pic, but I bet it's beautiful.

We swing through Clifton on our way and this mural cracks me up.  The town doesn't have a quilt shop, but the mural does.  There is a LOT more on Clifton in the link above.

We've made it to Cranfill's Gap for a beer and snack.  I wrote about this place once before in the above mentioned link.  Check it out as the Horny Toad bar is a MUST STOP for us.

We have dinner reservations at Zur Autobahn (yep, also in great detail in the link) and just outside it, are these amazing pink paintbrush.  Who knew.

Add in a little yellow and life is good.  I DO love wildflower season.

We have a lovely dinner and make the drive back to Dallas.  Keep reading as the weekend hasn't ended yet.

First thing Easter Morning --- the zoo.

We are at the otters as a member morning event and they are just delightful.  One pair in the pond.

One pair in the den sleeping.

Time for a swim.

Oooooh, the keeper has treats.

Hippo love -

Goodness but out little girl has grown.

The ladies are very active today and we are mesmerized.  It's just so fun to watch when they aren't just sleeping.

One last look and we have to move on.

Hand size comparison at the chimpanzees.

Gorilla fun -

The Wattled Cranes have a nest - as strange as it appears.  Just a few twigs on the ground, but she is setting on eggs and he is very protective.

A quick trip over to see how much the babies have grown.

Majestic Dad.

Playing and chasing each other the whole time we watch.

Howdy to the giraffes and it's back to the house for a bit (still not the end of this post.)

One of our fav breweries is open this afternoon/evening and we are stopping in.

As we sit and relax, it turns out there will be an "adult" Easter Egg hunt and with a shrug of our shoulders, "Why not?"  They've asked people to limit their treasures to 2-3 eggs each so we stop at 4.

Our haul.

Hidden inside are numbers and you turn them in for the prizes.  We did pretty good and one of the certificates is for a company that just happens to be here right now.  The ham in the fridge can happen tomorrow.

Dinner is served.  It's yummy and we are ready to call it a day.
