A few months ago, the daughter of an old friend in Billings said on Facebook that she was going to be in Dallas for a few days and was looking for advice on travel and ideas of things to do. As I gave her some suggestions, I also invited them to stay with us for a couple of days to save some money. They accepted and arrived this afternoon. We are off to Sonny Bryan's for some authentic Texas BBQ and then maybe a little sightseeing.
After dinner, we make a quick trip down to the West End Historic section and Dealy Plaza, where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. It's always interesting to travel down there and relive moments that you are unable to express to another generation, none of whom have experienced it themselves.
X marks the spot. A few years ago, during the preparations for the 50th anniversary of this event, the marking on the road was removed. Citizens were not at all happy about that and the mark reappeared shortly after the anniversary programs were over. Why eliminate it? It happened and it makes it more real to have the spot marked.
Next up, down to the Continental Avenue Bridge and hopefully some beautiful pictures of the Dallas skyline as the sun sets. The last time we were down here, the whole place was flooded incredibly and Mister was able to get some remarkable pictures. You can see them by clicking on THIS LINK.
It's an entirely different view tonight, but beautiful still the same. Enjoy the eye candy:
The next day, we run around town a bit and have a drink at the Meddlesome Moth before returning home to change for the Rangers game tonight. We are meeting Lisa and Eric there and although I wish Mister could come too, it just doesn't work out for him.
I do love this stadium and am so very sad that they want to replace it. What is wrong with just updating it and keeping the memories alive? ugh. I digress. It's been great to have Orrin and Emily here with us the next couple of days but we must say good-bye to them tonight and send them to Lisa and Eric's with a smile. I am flying EARLY tomorrow and thus, our time together is over. Thanks for visiting with us for a few days. We really enjoyed your company. The house is always open to you both.
